Personal Statement
Having come from musical family, music has
always been a part of my life. My interest started at my family gatherings. We
used to rent a place once in a month that already provides musical instruments.
I used to take a part as a singer and my cousin as a pianist and other family
members with their own specializing in music, most of the times it ended up
with everyone singing and jamming along together. What a great thing that
people can play instruments by the ear and create a beautiful rhythm with the
expertise of each person in music.
I took part in music more
serious since junior high school by joining piano and drum course for years and
still going to challenge myself more with my passion in music. I've experienced
to perform in several events, also I have achieved some awards by joining some
contest music in town and out of town. Back when I was in senior high school I
formed a band – Indie Rock with 5 of my best friends as a
challenge to make our own masterpiece. Turned out we were asked to perform at a
music concert in Jakarta as known as Haiday which was held in
Parkir Timur Senayan in 2014.
Now that I entered college in
Binus University, I do not have enough time to jam with my band, rather than
forgetting the band I took music-related courses which are “Introduction
to Indonesian Music and Culture” and “Popular Culture”. I
really enjoyed learning both of the courses it helped me to know more about
music, not only helped me to expand my knowledge about pop music or pop culture
but also helped to be a better musician. It's shown me the importance of
being able to play many different styles. I like to explore other areas of
music, as I find it essential to being a musician. It's also given me a
much bigger interest in world music.
I have had experience in
organization too. in my freshmen year I joined “Himpunan Mahasiswa Sastra
Inggris” as an activist this has given me an opportunity to become chairman of
the “English Club” event. I came up with the idea “Rock Your Passion” as the
theme of this event. Becoming a part of this event as a leader, I found
this to be a big responsibility and very rewarding. It helped me develop a
closer relationship with the rest of the team. Overall my experiences
taught me many skills and I was entrusted as the chairman of the event attended
by students of English Literature in Binus University.
From my experiences over years,
I am set on choosing music for my master degree. I have a great desire to learn
and with my experience in music. I really want to take myself to the next level
of education. I feel that University is the way to get to that next step, with
new learning and life opportunities.
